How do I prepare my home for an oncoming hurricane to avoid major damage?
All tropical storm and hurricane warnings should be taken seriously ake all hurricane warnings seriously. Storms can be unpredictable and can turn at any moment, so be careful not to think you are clear of a storm until the hurrican center has advised.
Remember:
  • Even though your building is well constructed it can still sustain major damage.
  • Loss of life and destruction of the conents of your home or office can be caused by flooding from excessive rainfall and debris carried by high-winds crashing through glass windows.
  • Do not wait until hurricane season to install hurricane shutters. If you already have shutters, then you should locate those and have all the elements ready for installation prior to the start of hurricane season.Check your shutters to ensure they are in good working order.
  • If you are using plywood to shutter your home, have the wood custome-cut to fit within the window opening as plywood nailed over windows that are not properly cut can be blown away during a storm.
  • Always have a emergency supply of dry goods, canned foods and water on hand. Do not wait until the storm approaches. Delay could result in a scarcity of goods and inflated prices.
  • Trim your tress and clear the ground of debris that could become airborne missiles and cause unnecessary damage during a storm.
  • Replace loose roofing shingles at the start of the hurricane season.
  • Keep extra supplies of canned goods and other non-perishable items on hand
  • Place your important documents inlcuding your insurance policy in a watertight plastic bag, and be sure to keep it in a place you can easily access, should you need to evacuate. If you don't have your policy, request a copy from your agent. Be sure to review your coverage with your agent prior to the start of the season. REMEMBER, your will not be able to purchase or renew your home owners policy if a hurricane is approaching or within a certain distance of your home.

What do I do in the event of an accident in my home?
If an accident occurs and someone is hurt, seek medical attention immediately. Once you are sure that the injured party is safe and receiving the necessary care, contact your agent to report the incident. As with all accidents, never admit liability. Simply state that you are insured with us and that we will be assisting with the matter.

How do I decide how much home owner's insurance I need?
How much home owner's insurance you need will depend on several factors including the value of our home, where it is located, the enhanced security measures  in place and the value of your mortgae, if you have a mortgage.
